Most Jasmine Absolutes are solvent extracted using harsh chemicals. Make a better choice and choose our 100% pure all natural organic Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum sambac), extracted by the ancient method of Enfleurage.
Our organic Jasmine Absolute is pure undiluted Jasmine Oil extracted by the ancient method of Enfleurage. Our organic Jasmine Oil is most rare, coming from a small grower/extractor in South America who extracts the jasmine oil by enfleurage, using only organic palm oil and organic alcohol derived from locally grown organic sugar cane. The complete process of extracting the jasmine oil is done by hand using no heat and no harsh chemical solvents, yielding a very pure and fragrant organic Jasmine Absolute / a therapeutic quality oil.
As part of the organic Enfleurage process, pure local organic palm oil is used to absorb the aromatic oils from the jasmine flower petals. Once the palm oil is completely saturated with the essence of the jasmine flower then the palm oil is separated from the organic Jasminum sambac oil by the addition of cane sugar alcohol. The molecules of jasmine essential oil migrate from the palm oil and attach to the alcohol. Then the palm oil is poured off so only the alcohol and jasmine essential oils remain. Lastly, the alcohol is evaporated to leave only the Jasmine oil, i.e. Jasmine Absolute. The process for producing the Jasmine Absolute by Enfleurage is quite labor intensive and requires many pounds of jasmine flower petals per ml of oil but the results are astounding. If you close your eyes and inhale the aroma of the oil, you'll find that the aromatic essence is quite similar to that of the actual jasmine flower. More Info: Jasminum sambac / Jasmine Absolute is one of the most precious oils in the world and known for its heavenly aroma and fragrance.
Jasmine oil cannot be distilled like most essential oils due to the delicate nature of the flowers. Enfleurage was the traditional method of extraction used in the 18th and 19th centuries and into the early 20th century but solvent extraction using hexane has virtually replaced enfleurage, except, of course, for our own Jasmine Absolute. Solvent extracted Jasmine oil, called an "absolute", is used extensively by the perfume industry but, not by us (no chemicals other than organic alcohol) are used to extract the Jasmine Oil that we sell). Either method (enfleurage or solvent extraction) is time consuming and oil yields are quite small for the amount of materials used. Today, the most commonly found Jasmine used by the perfume industry is entirely synthetic and has no healing properties at all. Natural jasmine perfume is often enjoyed as a single-flower oil since the rich, warm, heady floral aroma produced from the flowers is so exquisite by itself.
